My Style of Teaching

I came to Yoga and Meditation searching for a cure for my childhood trauma and chronic pain. My early life was difficult and I was not in a good place mentally. I had tried traditional routes of treatment and none had really allowed me to heal. That’s not to say they don’t work for others, I am sure many people find they do, just for me the traditional treatments had dulled my senses and love of life, and hadn’t really helped me make any headway in actually dealing with the trauma. I had also developed a chronic pain condition.

I found Yoga and Meditation allowed me to heal at my own pace, working on a deep level in the body and mind to help me to accept and heal the trauma. It was not a quick fix, I am still working on it, I still have chronic pain, but I don’t “suffer” quite so much!

As a more mature lady with over half a century of life experience under my belt, my style of yoga is one of gentleness. I encourage my clients to work with acceptance and kindness towards themselves and their in-the-moment-limits at all times. Our minds and bodies are constantly changing, our physical and emotional experiences can change from moment to moment, and it is important we acknowledge this and treat ourselves with respect and kindness.

I teach Hatha Yoga, concentrating on moving and holding asana with constant mindful awareness. It is a very slow and gentle style, suitable for anyone regardless of body type, experience or flexibility. I have been told by many of my clients that my voice and teaching energy are profoundly calming and hypnotic.

I also ensure that each class has a substantial element of Pranayama and Breathwork. For me, breath is the cornerstone of mindfulness, healing, learning and accepting all of our life experiences.

Each class ends with a guided relaxation, a time to feel the effect of the class and to allow the mind and body to unite in a truly peaceful experience that can allow for profound and awakened states of being.

Working on a one-to-one basis with private classes allows us time and space to focus on what you need right now, we can focus on asana that you find challenging or deal with issues you might be having in your home or class practice. It means we can schedule these deeper sessions that are completely focused on you at a time that works for you.
